Following the release of her debut album last year, Ivy Falls returns with Free Ride, a song that expands on her signature melancholic sound while introducing a fresh, confident energy. Released today, the track explores privilege in its subtlest forms—the luck of experiencing simplicity and the moments we often overlook. Through vivid imagery, Free Ride reflects on the importance of letting go of control, shifting perspectives, and recognizing what matters most.
“In a world where so much feels uncertain and unsettling, writing about life’s simple moments might seem trivial,” songwriter Fien Deman shares. “But for those fortunate enough to experience them—whether they acknowledge it or not—these fleeting instances hold immense value. Isn't it strange how the sky always clears up great, for some? When you take a step back, this privilege can feel surreal and unfair, but that only makes it more important to recognize it while also finding tiny ways to give back.”
The track maintains the introspective tone of Ivy Falls' previous work but introduces a newfound clarity and confidence in its arrangements. Free Ride signals an evolution in her sound, marked by renewed boldness. The song features contributions from band members Simon Raman (Steiger) on drums, Anton De Boes on synth and acoustic guitar, and Trui Amerlinck (Tsar B) on bass. Bram Vanparys (The Bony King of Nowhere) also joins on electric guitar. The track was recorded at Boma Studio by Frederik Segers (Black Flower, Fulco, Stadt, The Germans) and mixed by Koen Gisen (The Bony King of Nowhere, Naïma Joris, Flying Horseman).
With Free Ride, Ivy Falls invites listeners to embrace the beauty in life’s simplest moments—not as something deserved, but as a fleeting stroke of luck. A reminder that, especially in uncertain times, the ability to find peace and clarity is itself a luxury not granted to all. So, when you do—see it, seize it with both hands, and cherish it while it lasts.
