A while back, Pauwel quit playing music. He went through rough times, his mother became severely ill and in his darkest days he decided to let go of his musical ambitions.
Some time later, he had to reconsider. Pauwel realised that music makes him the man he is, and it helps him to ease the turmoil in his head. He decided to translate his misfortune and doubts into new music. His new tunes sound more urgent and intense than ever before. ‘Waves’ was the first song to pop up, about his all time low, about his demons and the hopelessness.
The song touched quite a few people, and it sparked the flame anew. Pauwel kept on writing reinvigoratedly. About the forests he grew up in, and how somehow the treehouses disappeared and the heroin addicts came. About a childhood friend, about the relationship with his parents, about letting go and holding on. Always departing from his own experiences and reflections, Pauwel drags us into his own world. He balances on the border between childlike innocence and the composure of adulthood. Pauwel's debut EP for Unday was released in the fall of 2020.
Debut album 'Dear' is Pauwel’s big step forward. His debut album is a mature collection of songs about loss in all its different facets. Pauwel openly confrontshis demons, without ever losing sight of the essence: rock-solid and captivating folk songs between hope and despair, comforting and disquietingat the same time. 'Dear' turns out to be a record to cherish and completely disappear into.
