There's a moment in 'Maintained Love' where Mauro Pawlowski admits he's running for a bus and suddenly finds himself thinking about someone he loves. No candlelit dinner, no sweeping gesture, just a ghost that appears at random times, and the quiet realization that it's enough. It might be the most disarmingly honest love song he's ever written.
Today 'Maintained Love' is the latest single from his upcoming album ‘Unspectacular Times’, due June 19. Where other tracks on the record lean into the 80s-soaked synths and driving basslines that define the album, this one takes its time. Warm, a little wry, and hiding a wink at obscure British punk outfit The Homosexuals in plain sight.
‘Unspectacular Times’ is produced by Scorpio Twins aka Stéphane Misseghers (dEUS) and Bruno Coussée (Rheinzand), with Brianne Dunne amongst other — drummer for Daryl Hall & John Oates — appearing on five of the album's tracks. It is Pawlowski's most focused pop statement to date, from one of Belgium's most restless and collaborative musical figures: a musician whose career spans Evil Superstars, dEUS, theater, dance, film, and more alter egos than most artists have albums.
‘Unspectacular Times’ is out June 19 on Unday Records.
