Elis Floreen is a Belgian/Dutch singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, arranger and producer. Coming from the small village of Eksel in the green province of Limburg (Belgium), her mission is to explore and understand the world through the lens of music and lyrics. Starting as a classical pianist from a young age, she learned the tricks of the songwriting trade through melodies and harmonies of composers like Liszt and Chopin. At the age of 8, she started writing her own songs on the piano.
Songwriting and composition is a form of studying for Elis; a medium through which the external and internal world can be picked apart and understood. In her lyrics, Elis likes to explore theme’s from literature, folklore, travels, imagination, symbolism and personal experiences. Her musical influences also reflect a wacky variety of interests, from modern alt-pop to seventees psychedelic rock, from Andean music to eighties new wave, from MBP to filmmusic. Because of those ecclectic fascinations, her music becomes a colourful mishmash of styles that are weaved together into one whole. Elis’ describes the desire to make her songs sound like a magic realism painting or book.
Elis Floreen has had a few other projects with which she released music. Starting in 2016 as ‘Audri’ she released two EP’s. Later, when living in Copenhagen for four years, she explored electronic music as ‘Marijke Florien’ on her conceptual album “Anætomy”. In 2023, she played the finale of Sound Track and in January of 2024 she was one of the 9 finalists of Studio Brussels’ De Nieuwe Lichting.
